The first week of November began with a consequential U.S. presidential election that saw President-elect Donald Trump defeating Vice President Kamala Harris. The drama surrounding Election Night and its aftermath lifted all three evening news broadcasts in both total viewers and the Adults 25-54 demo.
NBC News and CBS News’ evening newscasts faired particularly well as both experienced double-digit gains in the advertiser-coveted demo. But all three programs saw year-to-year total viewer declines compared to 2023, suggesting that audience erosion remains a headache that needs to be addressed by executives at the broadcast networks.
