Nonfungible tokens—or digital collectibles, as Meta refers to them—are now available to all Facebook and Instagram users in the U.S., as well as the more than 100 countries where the company started testing the feature in August.
Meta began testing digital collectibles on Instagram in May with “a handful” of collectors and creators in the U.S., allowing them to post NFTs that they created or owned on Instagram by linking third-party digital wallets in-application.
NFTs displayed on Instagram appear with a special shimmer visual treatment, with the content attributed to both the creator and owner of the NFT.
The test was expanded to more than 100 countries across Africa, the Americas, the Asia-Pacific region and the Middle East in August, and more supported blockchains and third-party wallets were added.
