It was on her third visit to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Mempis, Tenn., that Samantha Maltin decided to take on the role of chief marketing and brand officer at the center’s fundraising and research organization, the American Lebanese Syrian Associated Charities (ALSAC).

The clincher was a picture that caught her eye in the hallway. Taken in 2014 of a then a four-year-old cancer patient named Hayden, the image showed his tiny silhouette in a Superman costume.
