ChatGPT officially enters the search arena.

On Thursday, OpenAI added an AI-powered search engine directly within its popular chatbot, ChatGPT. This move positions ChatGPT to compete with established tools like Google Search, Microsoft Bing, and the San Francisco startup Perplexity.

OpenAI’s “ChatGPT Search” will provide answers using up-to-date information from the web, including news, stock prices, and sports scores, complete with links to relevant sources, according to a blog post announcing the update.

For example, if a user asks where to have dinner in their town or city, ChatGPT will generate a list of restaurants, including location and pricing details sourced from websites, along with links to articles for further information.
