Houston Anchor Defends How She Pronounces Spanish Names

KTRK evening anchor Mayra Moreno is defending how she pronounces Spanish named during English language broadcasts.

“Why must you pronounce Hispanic sounding names with a Hispanic accent?” a viewer who claimed to be a former White House writer from 1989-1990. “You are not in a Spanish-speaking country so stop trying to pretend that you are. I don’t speak Spanish and I don’t intend to learn it from you.”

Moreno is bilingual and of Mexican heritage. “Spanish is my first language and I’m pronouncing it how it’s supposed to be pronounced in Spanish.
